Of all the wallpaper themes I curate for this site, this one might be the most personal. I have a cat, and most of my late-night work happens with her either on my lap or asleep against my hip on the couch, and the entire visual vocabulary of this theme — the single warm lamp, the figure curled up with a book, the cat patient and motionless — comes directly from looking down at my own desk and noticing that the scene was, in fact, kind of beautiful.
The compositions cluster around small interior scenes: a girl in soft pajamas with a tabby curled on her knee, a desk corner where a cat sits on top of an open book, a window seat with both figures looking out into the night together. The lighting is always single-source warm — usually a desk lamp or a small floor lamp — which gives every image in the set a deep amber and shadowed-blue palette. The figures are anonymous. The cats are not (we vary breeds and colors deliberately).
It works as a year-round wallpaper, but it's especially good in late autumn and winter when you want the visual analog of "warm room and a soft animal." Pair it with rain ambient or fireplace ambient from the homepage, and with an actual warm drink. There's a real thing happening in the brain when you look at a wallpaper of a calm interior while in a calm interior; the two stack.
Related: girl kotatsu winter swaps the cat for a kotatsu (sometimes both), bedroom window night drops the figure entirely, and cozy bookshop moves the same warm-amber palette into a public space.
